A U-Haul employee was arrested in San Rafael on suspicion of using a company rental van to commit burglaries with two accomplices, police said.
A witness called police at 5 a.m. Sunday to report a vehicle burglary on Santa Margarita Drive, a street near the San Anselmo border, Sgt. Justin Graham said. The witness said the burglars left in a U-Haul van.
Police examined surveillance footage of the incident, obtained descriptions of the alleged burglars and searched for the van. At about 6:30 a.m., police stopped the van near the intersection of Second and West streets.
A search of the van revealed the suspected stolen property from Santa Margarita Drive as well property that police suspect was stolen elsewhere, Graham said. Investigators are working to identify other crimes that could involve the van and its occupants.
Police identified the driver as Marco Antonio Vasquez-Paxtor, 29, of Marin City. He works at a U-Haul business and is on probation for a vehicle theft conviction, Graham said.
Police identified the passengers as Oscar Noe Nunez-Rivera, 30, of San Rafael and Victor Manuel Orellana, 46, of San Rafael.
All three suspects remained in custody at the Marin County Jail on Sunday on allegations of burglary, conspiracy and other counts.
