OPINION:
Even as a child I found the story of David and Goliath extraordinary. Here was of a young man who challenged a giant to mortal combat — armed with only a slingshot — and won. What an amazing tale of courage and conviction on the part of someone who would later demonstrate an incredible intellect and exercise great leadership.
Today U.S. culture is seriously conflicted and confused about what constitutes appropriate behavior — and no doubt many here with an elevated level of “social consciousness” would think David needed counseling for anger management. I believe that a large number of liberal Americans think having a strong military is anachronistic, a thing of the past that should only be used in extreme circumstances or as a last resort.
But for over 2,000 years David has been the quintessential role model for kings and elected leaders in the Western world. David demonstrated in no uncertain terms that you cannot cower from conflict in order to have peace and safety. You have to be willing to risk and fight for the opportunity to have peace. America is a bastion of liberty for only one reason: its citizens have been willing to confront and fight their enemies head on. We do not shrink from the fight.
We must be willing to battle our enemies every way we can, economically and militarily. And by the way, the only way the hostages in Gaza have even a remote chance of being released is for us to threaten Iran immediately with all of the means at our disposal.
Here at home, if we don’t deal with Iran now, our whole country will soon be held hostage by terrorists already here. Enough with the equivocation by the current administration.
