OPINION:
If members of the House of Representatives believe that by voting to expel Rep. George Santos from their chamber they have proved to the American public their squeaky-clean status, they are dead wrong (“Frightening reality sets in after euphoria of George Santos’ expulsion fades: Who’s next?” Web, Dec. 3).
In John 8, Jesus is asked by the Scribes and Pharisees to use the law to punish a woman who was caught committing adultery. Jesus famously said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you cast the first stone at her.” Every one of those who voted to expel Santos should have been required to stand before the assembly and make the case for his or her own purity. I can only imagine all the campaign
promises these representatives have made but never been fulfilled, and all the campaign finances illegitimately used.
There is no other word for these people besides “hypocrites.”
