OPINION:
Many leaders in conservative circles love to say that good policy makes good politics. And of course, they are right. These days, the converse is also true: The failed policies of Democrats should prove powerful because voters can see the results.
Take a look at the bluest of blue states and cities, which are crumbling. They are overrun with illegal immigrants and crime. Each wants some government help, to which I say no. You got what you voted for.
We aren’t discussing help in recovering from natural disasters. These are policy disasters of Democrats’ own making. You want help? You want someone to help you out of the mess? You might try to help yourself first and vote for different results.
Think about it.
New York City and the state are begging for help with the illegal immigration crisis in the city. This is the same New York that proudly boasted of being a sanctuary for those who enter the county illegally. This is the same New York that votes overwhelmingly Democratic.
Well, you got what you voted for. You don’t like the results you are now forced to live through? Vote for something else.
It’s not as if President Biden hid his plan to open the border. Now the city has tens of thousands of illegal immigrants and thousands more arriving each week.
You shouldn’t get a bailout for your mistakes. You should make your outrage heard at the ballot box and vote for candidates who will secure the border, deal with the crime, and maybe even lower your outrageous taxes in the process.
The same holds true in crime-infested Chicago. Your elected leaders proudly supported the “defund the police” movement. Your state, Illinois, is about to eliminate cash bail, which means criminals who are caught will just be put back on the street to commit more crimes.
Have you had enough?
Illinois, which proudly gave the nation Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan, is now the poster child for failed Democratic policies. You gave liberal dreams a shot. It’s not working.
It reminds me of the famous quote, often ascribed to Albert Einstein, that “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
Of course, the true jewel in the tarnished crown of failed liberalism is California. Oh, how far the Golden State has fallen. The failed policies of the radical left have turned San Francisco, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, into a cesspool of human waste and suffering. Beverly Hills is now vacant and hollow after its once glitzy stores moved out due to high crime.
How long will it take before Californians realize that high taxes, high regulation, and soft-on-crime laws and prosecutors have done nothing to make their state better but have instead made it worse? The question is, when will Californians say enough is enough?
The stories of people fleeing California are endless. People are worried about the safety of their families because of the crime. People and businesses that can no longer afford to live there are moving.
I understand why so many are fleeing this failed state, but make sure you leave your failed politics with you. Bad liberal policies ruined your state and led you to flee. Don’t destroy your new home with those same failed policies. As for those who remain and want a better, safer California — instead of doubling down on liberal insanity, perhaps try something different.
When Americans purchase a product and find the quality isn’t good or doesn’t work as advertised, they don’t buy the product again. They usually give a competitor a shot. I suggest you try it.
So, does good policy equate to good politics? Yes, of course. But right now, the Democrats’ failed policies should be equally powerful. Those of you complaining about what you see happening in your cities and states, ask yourself: isn’t it time to consider voting for something else — something that actually works?
Try it. I guarantee you’ll get a secure border, criminals locked up again, lower taxes, and a better quality of life.
