Baker Mayfield declines Netflix for “Quarterback” season 2

Netflix’s TV show Quarterback has been a hit for the streaming service, and it’s been renewed for a second season with a new cast — but Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield won’t be featured.

Mayfield was asked on Wednesday whether he’d been approached to do the show, and he told media that he had declined the offer not only for 2023, but for the 2022 season as well. Mayfield is one of a number of QBs who have publically declined the opportunity to appear on the show, including players like Jalen Hurts, Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence.

Mayfield saying he turned down the show last year is interesting. Last year’s cast featured Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, Vikings QB Kirk Cousins and former Falcons QB Marcus Mariota, so Mayfield would have been approached to be on the show before one of those QBs was signed on to do it. Mayfield told reporters that he prefers to be “locked in” when the season starts, a statement echoed by other QBs who have been asked.

The Bucs and Mayfield will get to start their campaign on Sunday when they take on the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST.
