Why the new tool is worth it

Why the new tool is worth it

Dear New York Post Shopping readers, you probably know by now that if there’s a new blow dryer to hit the market, we’re going to try it!

So, when Moroccanoil debuted its newly minted 4-in-1 Blow-Dryer Brush (quite literally, as it’s embossed in the brand’s signature mint shade), we simply had to give it a go. After all, we’ve reviewed plenty of hair tools, from amika to Dyson.

Not only that, but my haircare closet is pretty stocked to the brim. After more than two years of testing the best shampoos and leave-in conditioners — oh, and we can’t forget about hair mousses and hair sprays — I’ve gained expertise on what’s worth the buy and what isn’t, as well as what makes a good hair product standout from the rest.

After reaching for Moroccanoil’s Everlasting Curl Titanium Curling Iron ($160) for years now, I had an inkling the brand would turnover a blow-dryer brush sooner rather than later. How could it not? Its products are all easy to use, make your hair look and feel amazing and — the cherry on top — have been seen backstage during New York Fashion Week.

Ahead, find my full review on the Moroccanoil 4-in-1 Blow Dryer Brush. Lord knows I need another blow dryer in my collection, but hey, it’s a whole lot of fun to style my hair and compare.

Sephora

The Moroccanoil 4-in-1 Blow-Dryer Brush is said to be suited for all hair textures, helps tame frizz and even increases shine — a feat the brand is applauded for among its catalog of formulations.

What’s more, this hair tool was designed with advanced ionic technology to help reduce drying time and static. Its far-infrared light helps reduce thermal exposure, too.

Moroccanoil 4-in-1 Blow-Dryer Brush Review
Victoria Giardina

While reviewing the Moroccanoil 4-in-1 Blow-Dryer Brush, here’s the checklist we ran through to compare it to some others we’ve used:

  • Ease of use: When it’s time for me to style my hair, I don’t want it to be a production. I want to go from damp to dry on the fly, and with a tool that is just as easy to use as it is effective.
  • Styling power: When using a blow-dryer brush, I look at how my hair feels as it’s being styled. Does the hair tool leave my hair dry? Frizzy? On the flip-side, does it leave my hair soft and bouncy? Smooth to the touch? These are all factors I take into consideration when reviewing.
  • Lasting power: Arguably the most important factor in assessing a styling tool is how long the style will last. Can I go longer than two days without a wash, perhaps even skipping dry shampoo in the process?

Moroccanoil 4-in-1 Blow-Dryer Brush Review
Victoria Giardina

Blow-dryer brushes are notorious for being easy to use, and the Moroccanoil 4-in-1 Blow-Dryer Brush is no different. It’s nearly identical to the Drybar’s The Double Shot Blow-Dryer Brush ($155) in both shape and maneuver, though the Moroccanoil model has a few key characteristics that made me pleasantly surprised while styling.

First things first, prime your hair with a good heat protectant. Fittingly, I used the Moroccanoil Perfect Defense Heat Protectant ($30) and followed with the brand’s new Frizz Shield Spray ($30) to prep my hair and prevent those flyaways.

On other days, reaching for the Moroccanoil Smoothing Lotion ($36) isn’t a rare event; this pump-style bottle is one of my favorite miracle-workers.

To cut right to the chase, the Moroccanoil 4-in-1 Blow-Dryer Brush has an array of easy-to-use heat settings (which allows for wonderful customizability), keeps your hair taut and in place while styling (without pulling your hair; it gently tugs it, keeping your sectioned-off hair nicely wrapped around its bristles) and leaves your hair polished and exactly how I prefer it to look.

Oh, and drumroll please: this blow-dryer brush is the quickest to use, allowing me to style my hair in just 10 minutes!

If you wish, you can grab your favorite curling iron or wand to accentuate your blowout after use.

Though I don’t have as much body with the Moroccanoil 4-in-1 Blow-Dryer Brush compared to others I’ve tested, I do appreciate how it leaves me with a polished, virtually frizz-free look. In fact, this is ideal, because you can always up the body on your hair with the Moroccanoil Dry Texture Spray ($30) — how I like to end my hair-styling time to achieve a bit more fullness.

How it compares to competitors

As mentioned, rotating my blow-dryer brushes makes styling my hair exciting and fresh post-shower (hint hint, full blow-dryer brush review coming soon). Below, I outlined how the Moroccanoil 4-in-1 Blow-Dryer Brush measures up to others I’ve tried:

  • Moroccanoil versus amika: I’m a huge amika fan, but Moroccanoil’s tool has a bit more customizability than the amika Hair Blow Dryer Brush 2.0 ($100) — as far as heat settings go — and more even heat distribution as well.
  • Moroccanoil versus Drybar: This is the toughest neck-and-neck comparison, as I find both brands to be ultra-similar. The difference? Drybar’s The Double Shot Blow-Dryer Brush ($155) may be better suited for fine hair as its head is a bit less robust, and Moroccanoil’s model is quicker to use.
  • Moroccanoil versus Dyson: The plethora of attachments the Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler Complete Long ($599) comes with can be quite overwhelming, so I find myself reaching for Moroccanoil’s tool more. The Moroccanoil tool is easier to use, doesn’t require as much of a learning curve and is easier to store. My honest advice? Save the $$$ and grab the Moroccanoil one.
  • Moroccanoil versus T3: I always recommend the T3 AireBrush Duo Interchangeable Hot Air Blow Dry Brush ($142) to more advanced hair-stylers. Because of its more tapered brush head and softer bristles, it isn’t as simple to collect your hair and blow it out. In other words, it’s more similar to using a traditional round brush. However, I find T3’s to offer more customizability with styling, thanks to its straightener attachment in addition to its standard round brush.

The bottom line

The Moroccanoil 4-in-1 Blow-Dryer Brush impressed me. I’ve been using the brand for years and found the design, efficacy and ease of styling to be a trifecta of hair-goodness. Now, all you have to do is buy (trust me, it’s worth your hard-earned coin).
