Philadelphia police are searching for two men who robbed nail salons and shot an employee over the weekend while wearing Muslim religious garments for women.
The first armed robbery struck the Happy Family Nail Salon and Spa at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, while the second occurred at around 7:30 p.m. the same day at the Nails in the City salon, city law enforcement said.
Employees of the two salons were held at gunpoint, their IDs and wallets were taken, and cash was stolen from the registers, police said. An employee at Nails in the City was shot in the leg while pursuing the suspects. She is in stable condition, police said.
Law enforcement released video footage of the robberies on YouTube.
One of the suspects is described as being about six feet tall with a stocky build, wearing a black-and-white print Muslim religious garment for women, an orange face mask, black-and-white Nike sneakers, black pants and gray and white mechanic’s gloves.
The other suspect is about 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a thin build, wearing a cheetah or leopard print Muslim religious garment for women, a blue or purple face mask, black pants, white sneakers and gray and white mechanic’s gloves.
Police said both suspects are Black.
