The Tampa Bay Buccaneers spent the majority of their energy (and salary cap space) this offseason re-signing their own free agents, and they’re not done breaking the bank to keep their biggest names in-house.
After keeping this year’s top players from hitting the open market, it’s only a matter of time before the Bucs do the same for All-Pro offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs, who is likely to get a new long-term contract extension at some point this offseason.
Laremy Tunsil of the Houston Texans is currently the highest-paid offensive tackle in the NFL, coming in at an average annual value of $25 million:

A new deal for Wirfs is likely to smash that number, and could end up in the $30 million per year range.
The No. 13 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, Wirfs made an immediate impact for a Bucs team that won the Super Bowl that year, and he’s only gotten better since. Even making the switch from right to left tackle last season, Wirfs didn’t miss a beat, and remains one of the most dominant players in the league at his position.
Don’t be surprised when he’s compensated accordingly in the coming months, much to the joy of every other offensive tackle in the league.
