Tim Walberg's Michigan office hit by antisemitic poster

Rep. Tim Walberg, Michigan Republican and a staunch supporter of Israel, said an antisemitic sign was found hanging outside his district headquarters, marking the second time his office has been targeted.

“This anti-Semitic garbage was hung outside my Jackson office today,” Mr. Walberg said Monday on X. “Whether it’s occurring in plain sight like this, or it’s the hypocrisy and acceptance of calls for Jewish genocide on college campuses, I’ll continue to condemn the scourge of anti-Semitism.”

Mr. Walberg was among the lawmakers who quizzed Harvard President Claudine Gay at last week’s heated House Education and the Workforce Committee hearing on campus antisemitism.

“In what world is a call for violence against Jews protected speech, but a belief that sex is biological and binary isn’t?” he asked Ms. Gay at the Dec. 5 hearing.

He led a letter signed by 43 members of Congress calling for Education Secretary Miguel Cardona press colleges to increase security for Jewish students on campus amid escalating protests and harassment following the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israeli civilians.

This isn’t the first time Mr. Walberg, a former Baptist pastor, has been hit with vandalism over his support of Israel.

In late October, he posted a photo showing that the “I Stand With Israel” sign outside his congressional office had been defaced with red handprints.

“Anti-Semitism continues to sweep across the world, and sadly, it is alive in Michigan,” Mr. Walberg said. “This crisis reflects a lack of morality and genuine education. Nowhere was this more clear than last week, when some of the most prominent names in academia’s leadership displayed utter moral cowardice but also a broader systemic failure in higher education.”

The poster found hanging on a tree outside his office showed a U.S. flag with an Israeli flag in the corner in place of the 50 stars, as well as antisemitic slogans and drawings.
