The Tampa Bay Buccaneers held three defensive players — starting cornerback Carlton Davis (toe), defensive tackle Calijah Kancey (calf) and nickel CB Christian Izien (concussion) — out of practice on Wednesday, throwing their Week 2 status against the Chicago Bears into doubt. Quarterback Baker Mayfield also made the injury report but was listed as a full participant.
The Wednesday injury report is too early to say whether any of these players will or will not play Sunday at Tampa Bay’s home opener. Clearing the concussion protocol can be tricky and hard to predict so Izien’s status is very much up in the air. Kancey already missed the entire preseason and most of Week 1 with a calf injury. This may become a persistent problem for the Bucs’ first-round pick this season.
The only Bears player to miss practice Wednesday was nickel CB Kyler Gordon. Backup nickel Josh Blackwell and linebacker Dylan Cole were listed as questionable.
