Spencer Strider out for season after UCL surgery in Braves injury blow

Braves ace Spencer Strider, one of MLB’s best pitchers, is out for the season.

Strider underwent surgery Friday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow with an internal brace, the Braves announced.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, Texas

Strider led the National League in wins (20) and strikeouts (281) while pitching to a 3.86 ERA in 186 2/3 innings last season.

The 25-year-old right-hander’s injury changes the landscape of the National League East and opens a window for the Mets.

It also continues an alarming epidemic of ace pitchers needing season-ending surgery in the era of the pitch clock.
