The Carolina Panthers are cutting their losses.
Colts owner David Tepper announced on social media Monday that the Panthers are firing head coach Frank Reich after 11 games. Reich went 1-10 in that stand, his only win coming against the Houston Texans, and he becomes the coach with the quickest tenure before getting fired since 1978.
This is of course pertinent for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the long term, but it’s also pertinent in the immediate short term — Tampa Bay is Carolina’s next opponent for Week 13, and it’ll face the Bucs under interim head coach Chris Tabor. The Panthers facing the Bucs with an interim head coach is nothing new, as the team won against Tampa Bay under Steve Wilks in Week 7 and then lost against the Bucs in Week 17. Tabor’s only head coaching experience at any level came in 2001, when he coached the Division II Culver-Stockton Wildcats to a 6-5 record.
This game was flexed in advanced, so the Bucs will face the newly-coached Carolina Panthers at 4:05 p.m on Dec. 3.
