Outside linebacker shaquil barrett may have been released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday, but he remains in the record books for the Bucs.
Barrett’s first season as a Buccaneer came in 2019, and it was a display of dominance. Barrett netted 19.5 sacks, which led the league in 2019 — additionally, the record remains as the most sacks ever recorded by a Tampa Bay Buccaneer across a single season. Barrett’s 2019 campaign was capped off with a Pro Bowl appearance and a Second Team All-Pro nod, solidifying perhaps the best year by a pass rusher in franchise history.
Barrett was ranked No. 32 on the NFL Top 100 as voted by players heading into 2020, the year he’d win a Super Bowl and record eight sacks. During his package for the rankings, players from all around the league talked about Barrett’s campaign — teammates praised his power while opponents talked how tough it was to play against him.
