OPINION:
Congratulations to House Speaker McCarthy on getting the 45-day continuing resolution accomplished (“McCarthy turns to a ‘clean’ stopgap bill to avoid a shutdown, puts the ball in the Democrats’ court,” Web, Sept. 30). I still do not like the idea of a continuing resolution or omnibus spending bill, but McCarthy’s short-term one for 45 days is the best he could do to avoid a government shutdown.
As a political and fiscal conservative, I blame all members of Congress, since they knew the deadline. I ask Rep. Matt Gaetz, Florida Republican, and others who voted against the continuing resolution to work with McCarthy to get the appropriations accomplished in the 45 days to do . We must get federal spending under control and force the Biden administration to secure the border and do what is best for America, not just for their liberal base.
If Congress cannot do its job of funding the government, securing America and protecting its citizens (not illegal aliens or cartels), then all its members should look for a new job.
The very hard left turn the Democratic Party has taken in recent years is more in line with Marxism than with democracy. Let’s do what is best for the American taxpayer: spend less, secure our borders, stop inflation, use all available energy solutions and protect America from China and other adversaries. I say, “Keep America Great.”
