OPINION:
I noted with interest that President Biden did not mention God in his recent Thanksgiving Day message to the nation. Instead, he asked that we thank family, friends and strangers for our blessings.
Congress declared “In God We Trust” our national motto because we trust in God for our many blessings. Unfortunately, in recent times I have begun to question whether this is still the case.
Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen once remarked that man is incurably religious and will inevitably respect, honor, and pay homage to someone or something in life. This makes me suspect that the federal government has replaced God as the recipient of our homage and trust.
God has essentially been banned from public schools and most mainstream media, the Fourth Estate that previously watched out for citizens. Most news outlets have become the government’s lapdog, protecting government from its own citizens. Just consider the record of media and government during COVID-19.
May God help us.
