Letter to the editor: Happy hypocrites

It is not without good reason that the Republican Party is also known as the Stupid Party.

The expulsion of George Santos — who is under indictment for fraud, conspiracy, identity theft and false statements — from the House of Representatives is a case in point (“With the expulsion of Santos and ouster of McCarthy, the House is making unexpected history,” web, Dec. 2).

Granted, Mr. Santos is an admitted liar and a blight on Congress, but he should have his day in court before the House pulls the trigger on expulsion. A dangerous precedent has been established that could very well be exploited by the Democratic Party, which doesn’t suffer as much from stupidity as it does from rank corruption, evil policies and an unholy lust for power.

The Democrats are evidently more than happy to be seen as be seen as hypocrites for giving Mr. Santos the boot while allowing the criminally indicted Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez to remain in office (under an even more egregious ethical cloud of bribery and conspiring to act as a foreign agent for Egypt).

Too many elected Republicans fail to understand the ideological war we are in. They come to Washington for themselves and care little about the people they are supposed to represent. Democrats, however, are unified by a progressive worldview that enables them to ignore the rule of law, the Constitution and the equal application of justice — as long as doing so furthers their political agenda.

Now, it’s just a matter of time before the Democrats retake the House and unleash something similar to what is being done to destroy former President Donald Trump: bypassing due process and using bogus charges to expel Republicans from Congress before they’ve had their day in court.
