Letter to the editor: Double standard from UN, media

Since the war in Ukraine began almost two years ago, I have often pondered the reason for a double standard. Why is it that there are little or no demonstrations in the world on behalf of Ukraine, condemning Russia for killing thousands of Ukrainian civilians and the destruction of Ukrainian infrastructure?

Where has the United Nations been?

And many people throughout the world condemn Israel for defending itself against murder, rape and mayhem by terrorist organization Hamas. Does Israel not have a primary fundamental right and a military duty to defend and protect its citizens from random murder and arbitrary attacks with rockets and drones?

Has Russia not attacked hospitals, apartment buildings, schools and civilian shelters in Ukraine without a peep from humanity?

The European Union and the U.S. have aided Ukraine with billions of dollars in economic and military aid, but only the U.S. has come to the aid of its ally and steadfast friend, Israel.

Why has there been such hubris and disparagement against a nation that seeks no warm but to live in mutual peace and prosperity and with secure borders?

Why is the UN so belligerent? Why has the mainstream media been so one-sided, covering anti-Israeli demonstrations with vigor and depth but only superficially reporting on why Israel had to declare war on Hamas?

I have often pondered the reasons for this double standard — is it antisemitism, envy, hatred, lack of education or all of the above?

I wish someone would enlighten me.
