There is something about Shannon Sharpe‘s Club Shay Shay podcast that makes comedians open up – just look at Katt Williams‘ viral interview.
Mo’Nique recently paid a visit to the former footballer’s podcast show where she candidly responded to Tiffany Haddish for a remark she made in 2018 amidst Mo’Nique’s tense negotiations with Netflix.
After Mo’Nique called for a boycott of the streaming platform, Haddish defended Netflix in an interview with GQ, saying, “My business run different than her business. I don’t live her life. I don’t have that husband of hers… I’m not gonna protest because somebody got offered not the amount of money they wanted to get offered.”
But it looks like the remark is still fresh on Mo’Nique’s mind, as she told Sharpe, “You’re doing an interview with GQ magazine – I’m assuming the journalist was a white person and the conversation turned to Mo’Nique and she said, ‘Well, I don’t do business like Mo’Nique do business and I’m glad I don’t have that husband of hers.’”
She continued, “And when I saw that – it’s like Tiffany, if you had a husband like mine – you may not have two DUIs.”
Mo’Nique didn’t stop there.
“If you had a husband like mine – you may not be caught up in what looks like you could have been grooming a child,” she said. “And I say all of that with no judgment, but when you speak about having a husband like mine – you open up the door. And I’m saying to you – if you had one like mine you may not sit in these positions you can’t explain the next day or it’s a hard way to go.”
Sharpe, who was laughing as Mo’Nique criticized the actress, then commented, “Well, she doesn’t even have a husband – let alone one like yours.”
“Well, damn it, you said it,” she replied.
Mo’Nique’s husband Sidney Hicks is also her manager. The couple have known each other since they met in high school in Baltimore, but Mo’Nique claims their relationship began many years into their partnership. They now co-own a production company together, Hicks Media Inc.
She told The Hollywood Reporter in 2023 that their relationship began “over 16 years ago and we’ve not been apart since.”
“He’s the best manager that I’ve ever had,” she said at the time. “And I’ve had the big boys.”
