These macabre newlyweds made the vow “until death do us part” their entire wedding personality.
An American couple who eloped in the Catacombs of Paris on Halloween have gone viral on social media after sharing pictures of their eldritch event.
In a one-minute and 30-second video, Isabel, who goes by @ohmyisabel4ever on TikTok, posted behind-the-scenes clips of her eerie wedding ceremony with her husband, Justin — and potentially millions of restless spirits.
“A wedding in the Paris catacombs on Halloween is kind of crazy,” the 24-year-old bride said in a clip with over 742,000 views.
In the heart of Paris, the gothic tomb has become the eternal resting place for 6 to 7 million people, in an underground labyrinth that spans nearly 2,000 acres below the surface of the city. People unfamiliar with the subterranean system are often advised not to enter the chambers without professional guidance to avoid becoming lost in the large maze, or encountering the alleged mavericks who live there.
After a romantic dinner fit for a last meal, the pair and a friend — a witness to the marriage — descended the ghoulish cavern through a secret passage to avoid the overcrowded Halloween goers, forgoing a professional tour guide.
The trio trekked through the empty tunnel, splashing through dirty brown waters and crouching down due to the low ceiling levels.
On their journey, Justin found a wayward skull which he brought along with them to use as a photo prop.
“Don’t worry,” Isabel assured on TikTok after the fact. “We put him back exactly where we found him. We just took him on a little brief field trip.”
Once they made it through the darkness, to their altar of purified fountains, the bride donned her gown and commenced the ceremony.
“You can really tell we are in such a back corner at this point,” Isabel said of the scene, “but we really wanted, like, a private, intimate experience.”
“You could see all the beautiful formations with this black light,” she continued. “Then we took a few pictures.”
The expedition to the catacombs took a lot of energy out of the couple, who said they were exhausted after the I-dos.
“We were a little bit delirious,” she admitted.
The smitten cryptseekers completed the ceremony with a splash. “We did a final cleansing in the fountain and continued our amazing trip around France,” she gushed.
As eerie as the unconventional wedding may be, many TikTok users admired the couple’s eccentric elopement.
“Easily the coolest thing I’ve ever seen congrats,” wrote one person.
“Now THIS is a dream wedding, so jelly,” added another. “Manifesting this could happen for me too.”
One mindful viewer also expressed gratitude for their discretion, writing, “Thank you for not telling people where the entrance is, if you don’t know wtf you’re doing don’t go to the catacombs.”
