High school staff member arrested, tackled at football game after breaking ban

Brentwood Police arrested a former Heritage High School staff member after he showed up to a football game Friday evening despite being ordered to stay away from the campus.

Carlos Hurtado, 27, of Oakley, was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility for disrupting a school activity, trespassing, and obstruction charges.

The school’s principal flagged officers who were already working at the game around 7:25 p.m. after Hurtado showed up to the match between Heritage High School and Granada High School, Brentwood Police said.

When officers approached Hurtado, he started running through the stadium. Police officers chased after him, but ultimately a bystander put an end to the pursuit by tackling Hurtado. No officers or bystanders were injured.

A local journalist, Mike Burkholder of the East County Today account and Contra Costa News website, posted what he said was a video of the incident on his YouTube account.
