Glenn Youngkin: Tuesday election about getting a 'reasonable' 15-week abortion ban

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin urged voters Sunday to elect Republicans in Tuesday’s state elections so that the legislature can pass for his approval a 15-week abortion ban.

The Republican made the case that the hot-button issue in a battleground state presents a “moment for us to come together around reasonable limits.”

Virginia currently bans abortions after 26 weeks. Mr. Youngkin‘s 15-week proposal would include exceptions in the case of rape, incest and the life of the mother.

“This is a reasonable place for us to land,” Mr. Youngkin said on ABC’s “This Week.” “What’s on the ballot, I think, is a choice between no limits and reasonable limits, and I think this is one where Virginians come together around reasonableness.”

The Virginia House is controlled by Republicans and the Senate by Democrats.

Mr. Youngkin demurred on a potential 2024 presidential run as some in the GOP float his name as a viable alternative to former President Donald Trump, the current front-runner.

“To even have my name tossed around in this is incredibly humbling,” he said.
