Hollywood’s biggest night has finally arrived.
The 96th annual Academy Awards took center stage Sunday at the Dolby Theater in LA as “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer” and more competed for the coveted Best Picture award.
Hollywood’s elite were in good hands as late-night host Jimmy Kimmel returned as the show’s emcee for the fourth time, having hosted the event in 2017, 2018 and 2023.
“We are thrilled about Jimmy returning to host and Molly [McNearney] returning as executive producer for the Oscars,” Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang previously said in a statement.
“They share our love of movies and our commitment to producing a dynamic and entertaining show for our global audience. We are deeply grateful to Jimmy, Molly and their teams for their incredible creativity and partnership and for going on this ride with us again.”
Kimmel, 56, joked that he “always dreamed of hosting the Oscars exactly four times.”
Of course, no award ceremony would be complete without controversy. This year, some viewers were surprised whe Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie weren’t nominated in the Best Director and Best Lead Actress categories for “Barbie.”
Nominees for “Best Song,” meanwhile, will take center stage. Jon Batiste, Becky G, Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell as well as Ryan Gosling, who is set to belt out “I’m Just Ken,” will perform.
A medley of presenters — such as Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Dwayne Johnson, Michael Keaton, Regina King, Jennifer Lawrence and Rita Moreno — also attended the star-studded event.
