Former Bucs LB Devin White to visit Seahawks

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren’t expected to bring back linebacker Devin White on a new contract, and after a quiet start to free agency for the former No. 5 overall pick, it looks like he’s finally getting a bite on the open market.

White is set to visit with the Seattle Seahawks on Friday, per Fan Nation’s Karl Brooks.

White made some splash plays over his five seasons in Tampa Bay, and played the best stretch of his career at the most opportune time, during the Bucs’ Super Bowl run in 2020. But he’s been far too inconsistent throughout the rest of his career, which kept the Bucs from pursuing a long-term contract extension and letting him play out the fifth-year option on his rookie deal.

Despite being in a contract year, White’s inconsistency didn’t improve in 2023, and he was eventually benched for K.J. Britt later in the season. White also dealt with a foot injury last season.

It won’t be surprising if a team banks on White’s athleticism and upside by signing him in free agency, but it’s not likely to be anything more than a one-year deal.
