The FBI is investigating a vehicle blast Wednesday at the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, New York, and the agency’s joint terrorism task force is monitoring all points of entry to the state.
The explosion and fire at the border checkpoint took place before noon. All four international border crossings between the U.S. and Canada in Western New York were closed after the explosion, reported WIVB-TV, Buffalo’s CBS affiliate.
The city of Niagara Falls said the incident involved a vehicle trying to enter the U.S. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said she has been briefed and is meeting with law enforcement in Buffalo.
“At my direction, the New York State Police is actively working with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force to monitor all points of entry to New York,” Ms. Hochul said in a statement.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
