Three years ago today, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made it to the top of the mountain.
The Bucs played the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV on Feb. 7, 2021, and it was there that they earned their second franchise Lombardi Trophy. Tampa Bay dominated proceedings, winning the matchup 31-9 behind the efforts of quarterback Tom Brady and the fearsome Buccaneers defense.
The Chiefs scored the first points, moving up 3-0, but it would be the only lead they had. The Bucs dominated in the trenches, swarming quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes threw two interceptions and no touchdowns that game, held to just nine total points.
The offense, meanwhile, got the ball rolling. Brady and the Bucs put up 31 points, with every score coming from a player the team signed that year. Tight end Rob Gronkowski scored two touchdowns, wideout Antonio Brown caught one and running back Leonard Fournette ran for one as well. In the end, the team captured its second Lombardi, entering a group of 15 teams that have won two or more.
