Tampa Bay Buccaneers DT Calijah Kancey has been sidelined with a calf strain for most of training camp into the regular season, but he made some encouraging progress on Thursday heading into Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings.
In the portion available to the media, Kancey was seen practicing with the defensive linemen and participating in stretches at the beginning of practice. He hasn’t been a part of drills in quite a bit, so his limited participation (as it’ll likely show up as on Thursday’s injury report) potentially means that a Week 1 debut isn’t out of the cards for him.
Head coach Todd Bowles didn’t rule out Kancey’s return on Wednesday, and Thursday’s participation is a good first step in potentially getting on the field. His participation in practice Friday will be another indicator, an it’s unlikely that we’ll know the status of the first-round pick until gameday.
