The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed to terms with veteran free-agent pass rusher Randy Gregory, the team announced Wednesday.
Gregory was drafted in 2015 by the Dallas Cowboys before signing with the Denver Broncos in 2022. The Broncos traded Gregory to the San Francisco 49ers last October and became a free agent this offseason.
A pass-rush specialist, Gregory has 22 sacks over seven seasons in which his availability has been inconsistent due to injuries and numerous encounters with the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He was suspended for the 2017 and 2019 seasons as a result of failed drug tests.
Nevertheless, Gregory provides the Bucs with depth at outside linebacker following the release of Shaq Barrett, who accounted for 40 percent of the Bucs’ total pressures in 2023 (per Pro Football Focus).
While signing Gregory does not preclude Tampa Bay from drafting another edge defender, it provides additional flexibility to stay true to their board during the draft.
