Plenty of quarterbacks have big arms in the NFL. Few have one quite like Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen, and in Allen’s eyes, there’s another quarterback whose arm strength is underlooked in the NFL.
Allen was on FS1’s Speak with Emmanuel Acho, LeSean McCoy, James Jones and Joy Taylor during Super Bowl week’s Radio Row, and he was asked who had the strongest arm in the NFL. And while his answer was eventually Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson, the first name he mentioned was Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield.
“You know who’s got a sneaky big arm is [Mayfield],” Allen said. “Baker Mayfield’s got a cannon, and I don’t think he gets enough credit for it. I’m serious. He can absolutely chuck the ball.”
Most of the hosts responded by laughing in his face (to which Allen replied with a “come on!”), but there are some facts to back up his statement. Mayfield is one of the few QBs to ever throw 60 or more miles per hour at the NFL combine, just two miles per hour shy of the combine record held jointly by Allen and Browns QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson at 62 mph.
Additionally, Mayfield has one of the farthest-recorded throws in an NFL game, tossing a hail mary pass in 2020 well over 70 yards with the Browns in a Week 14 game against the Chicago Bears. As you can see below, Allen’s praise isn’t just talk.

Mayfield will get another chance to show off that arm in 2024, and it seems as if both he and the Buccaneers are hoping that he gets that chance in Tampa Bay.
